Most of us are aware of the very old fairly tale by Hans Christian Andersen in which two weavers promise an emperor the finest suit of clothes imaginable, but from a fabric invisible to anyone who is unfit for his position or "just hopelessly stupid". Well, in the fairy tale it turns out that nobody wants to admit that they are "unfit" or "stupid", so when the emperor parades before his subjects in his imaginary new suit of clothes, it takes a child to cry out: "But he isn't wearing anything at all!" Well, many of us have been declaring that the world economy "has no clothes" for some time now, but when the anchor of NBC News declares it on national television it gets a bit more attention. During his recent appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, NBC's Brian Williams was asked about the world financial situation. His answer included this shocking statement: "The world has no money, and the Emperor has no clothes."

London, England (CNN) -- Britain's new transport secretary plans talks Monday with British Airways and the union representing its cabin crews to try to avert a series of four planned strikes.

Philip Hammond will be meeting each side separately "to urge them to get back around the negotiating table and reach a settlement," the Department for Transport said in a statement Saturday.

Monday is the scheduled start of the first strike, which is supposed to last through May 22. It is also the day BA plans to seeks a High Court injunction to stop the strikes.

BA cabin crew members plan to walk out for a total of 20 days in a long-running dispute with the airline over pay and working conditions. The crew members went on strike over the issues twice in March but have since failed to resolve the dispute with their employer.

Clooney appeared upset at the Academy Awards last night.
According to The Frisky, there are several reasons why George Clooney appeared upset at the Academy Awards last night.
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Frisky has 11 reasons suggesting why George Clooney looked so bothered at the Oscars
  • Guesses range from not winning best actor to having too many ex-girlfriends in the room
  • Clooney has an Academy Award for best supporting actor, but not for best actor
RELATED TOPICS
(The Frisky) -- Was is just me, or did George Clooney seem upset at the Oscars last night?
His sourpuss act in the front row almost made me miss Jack Nicholson smirking in his dark sunglasses. And George's lady, Elisabetta Canalis, wasn't looking too chipper either -- those two had "Debbie Downer" written all over their faces.
Sure, George played nice for two seconds on the red carpet, but once he got inside ... forget it. What the heck does he have to be so pissed about? Here are our best guesses.
1. George is over it. He's happy where his career is and this whole Oscar business is too much of a pretense for him to even pretend to enjoy it anymore.
2. Elisabetta told George she was pregnant just moments before their Oscar limo arrived.
3. He knew he wasn't going to beat Jeff Bridges, plain and simple. Sure, he has an Oscar for best supporting actor, but he wants the big boy. He resented wasting 14 hours of his time for a loss?

4. George hated his floppy, gray hairdo and couldn't stop thinking about it long enough to have a good time.
5. George wanted to go stag, but his publicists forced him to take Elisabetta to help him shed his swinging bachelor image.

Tens of thousands of anti-government protesters have gathered in Bangkok, in a massive show of force.
They have given the government an ultimatum to dissolve Parliament or face mass marches in the city. The protestors, known as "red-shirts" have promised they will not use violence.
Around 50 thousand protesters from Thailand's rural areas have arrived in several parts of Bangkok, ahead of the main rally on Sunday. They are supporters of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship, known as the UDD.

The snow is forecasted to last until Sunday afternoon, according to Beijing municipal observatory.
The largest precipitation was recorded in Changping at 5.9 mm from 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday, and average precipitation stood at 2.6 mm for the whole city, according to the observatory.
"It will be a sunny day Monday and the highest temperature will rise to 6 degrees Celsius," said an expert with the observatory.
The observatory also warned that temperatures next week will change frequently, and citizens should pay close attention to weather forecast.
